Description

Legend has it that kintsugi was developed in the late 1400s after Japanese shogun Ashikaga Yoshimasa sent a damaged tea bowl to be repaired. He was distressed when his bowl was re-assembled with ugly metal staples, so the shogun ordered his artisans to develop a more attractive technique. The result conformed to the Japanese idea of finding beauty in the imperfect and appreciating even the signs of wear on a valuable object. It is a way of turning brokenness and damage into unique beauty.
