Real Men Aren’t Boors
The Dublin Independent reports that 300 American soldiers stranded in Ireland with aircraft problems were invited to join a wedding reception at their hotel. Many of them had met the couple earlier in the day, and when their commander warned his troops away from the private gathering, the bride and groom welcomed them in.
“They behaved in an exemplary manner at all times and if our troops behaved in the same way when they are on peacekeeping duties, I would be very proud,” said Mr Walsh [the father of the bride].
It reminded me that George Washington and Robert E. Lee were both known for their military ability and for excellent manners in society. Real men aren’t boors.
